I spoke with Greg Maclennan about his new release Mercury (In Retrograde)

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with the talented musician Greg Maclennan about his new track, Mercury (In Retrograde). With a unique blend of blues and rock and roll, Greg Maclennan has crafted a catchy and memorable tune that has enough grit to keep my attention. The track midnight rider also stood out to in a way that Tom Perry used to stand out to me in the 90's among everything else.

When I asked Greg Meaclennan about the inspiration behind the song, he shared that it was written during the Mercury retrograde in January of this year. Despite the difficult time he was going through, the song seemed to just come together effortlessly.

"I was trying to create this retro sound and give it a bit of that crazy vibe," Greg Maclennan explained. "I was trying to create the feel of you know when you are trying to run in your dream and you can't. The energy was feeling heavy, murky and slow. Like I knew I can't escape the energy and have to try negate it and survive it. Like the last line of the song says, 'Why don't you just let me be.'"

Honing his musical skills, Greg Maclennan was able to capture the feeling of a difficult time and turn it into a powerful and emotional track. He even went on to explain that he was hoping to convey the feeling of a frequency that was angled towards him during the recording process.

When asked about the overall vibe of the song, Maclennan noted that those familiar with a retrograde experience would likely connect with it on a deeper level. "There really isn't much more to it," he added. "I tried to keep the song simple and fun."

It's clear that Maclennan has a unique vision and approach to his music, and it's evident in the style of his work. Mercury (In Retrograde) is a must-listen for any music lover looking for some new blues rock in 2023, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us next.
