Good Stock Records, Manchester, UK - An Introduction

The label dates back to 2001. It was created by the band flawed, who were doing well around Manchester, UK; their Madchester, groove-tinged, alt-rock always seeming to be on the cusp of being signed. Back in those days, if you didn't have a deal then "distribution" usually meant selling CDs at gigs and persuading industry people to listen. The band wanted to record and go large on a release of their new song Pleasure Seekers, which had been recorded in their own studio to much anticipation.

Flawed

The chosen medium for the release was, at the time, the highly unfashionable 7" single, and so the record label was created to deliver that release, as a "slab of Czech acetate that Moses would have been proud to carve his top 10 tips into" to the world!

What happened next?

The 7" was played on UK national radio by Steve Lamacq and there was a Glastonbury appearance in 2002, so it served the band well, but despite a few more releases on CD, flawed disbanded in 2004. Fast forward 20 years - the record label had lain dormant until Lockdown 2020, when 3 members of flawed started jamming remotely and attempted to remember and record some of their old material that had gone unreleased.

With the recruitment of a new female vocalist, the label was resurrected with the new recordings going out under the code-name of The Goodstock Project

The Artist Roster

  • flawed, disbanded but The flawed 7" Pleasure Seekers / Kylie's Thigh double A side still has a few copies for sale on discogs, and through Bandcamp.
  • The Goodstock Project kept their name and continue to release to all streaming platforms with their brand of lush, rich, female fronted guitar goodness.
  • Most recently, The Fods, have released their debut EP through the label too, again with full digital distribution.

The Future

At the time of writing both The Goodstock Project and The Fods are in the throes of creativity with sophomore EPs expected early 2024. The label is fully open to new recruits, sharing expertise and providing encouragement to any that seek it! Physical formats, (with crowdfunded releases always considered too), for existing and undiscovered artists with an interest in getting on board.
